Story by Christopher Conover
The federal stimulus bill went into effect a year ago, but it is still a hot topic of debate. Some elected officials say it is a misguided waste of money. But others are not so sure. Talking with local officials who have received the federal checks, they say in some cases the money has allowed them to take care of responsibilities that in these tough economic times would have fallen to the wayside. Others say the federal money will allow Southern Arizona to generate billions in economic activity. How some politicians feel about the stimulus package is not so much based on party affiliation but instead on proximity to the incoming money.
