The University of Arizona has a new athletic director. U of A President Dr. Robert Shelton announced that Greg Byrne has accepted the position. Byrne currently is the athletic director at Mississippi State University. Dr. Shelton says Byrne helped to increase academic accomplishments for the athletes at MSU as well as reshaping fundraising.

Byrne, who is 38 years old, has been at the helm of the MSU athletic department for two years. Before that he worked at the University of Kentucky, Oregon State, and the Fiesta Bowl. He has a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and a master’s from Mississippi State His base salary at the U of A is $390 thousand.

The Board of Regents is expected to approve the hiring of Byrne at its meeting at the end of April. Mississippi State University’s Greg Byrne Selected as UA Director of Athletics
