It’s common knowledge that soccer does not enjoy the same popularity in the US as it does in other places around the globe. But there’s a place at the University of Arizona where people gather each week to participate in an indoor version of the world’s most popular sport. The student recreation center is the place where members of the university community gather to play pick up soccer, and sometimes it's standing room only for the players waiting on the sidelines. The games here are fast, and the teams play until a point is scored --then the losing team leaves to make room for the next challenger. Play at the gym is similar to other pickup games like basketball, but what is striking about indoor soccer is the diversity of the players. Players say that the games usually attract people from around the globe, and the languages spoken on the court attest to the diversity.
