New book documents stories from the migrant trail

Crossing with the Virgin: Stories from the Migrant Trail is a book that gives voice to the often untold stories that play out on the deserts of Southern Arizona.

Norma Price, Ted Parks, and Kathryn Ferguson are the coauthors of the book that seeks to document some of the stories of the thousands of people that have attempted to cross this unforgiving terrain. The authors are volunteers with The Samaritans, a group that works to eliminate death and suffering of migrants, and they have had many encounters with individuals in desperate near-death situations.

They say that each person they have encountered has a unique story and they have felt that it is important to document the accounts. The words may be uncomfortable to hear but the volunteers say that they are an important part of the conversation in these times, as we attempt to deal with the tragedy of our modern Mexico/US border.
