A Pima County voter alleges in a lawsuit that 1,653 of the signatures gathered by Edna San Miguel on her nominating petitions are invalid.

San Miguel is a Republican running in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, challenging Democratic incumbent Raúl Grijalva.

The suit claims many of those who signed nominating petitions for San Miguel do not live in the district, as required. It also alleges some signatories are not registered voters or signed twice.

If all of the challenged signatures are thrown out, San Miguel will be hundreds of signatures short of the necessary 864 to qualify for the ballot.

A hearing on the lawsuit is scheduled in Pima County Superior Court Wednesday morning.
