After warning it would have to shut down - at least temporarily - if it was unable to raise $2 million by last Friday, the Arizona Theatre Company says a matching pledge has allowed it to extend its fundraising deadline.

Tucson business leader Mike Kasser will donate $1 million to ATC if community members step in to contribute an equal amount.

Another anonymous donor wrote a check for $100,000, which will fund operations until the new July 15 deadline.

In a statement, Kasser called on community members in Tucson and Phoenix to join him in supporting the organization.

”We simply cannot afford to see Arizona Theatre Company go dark," he wrote.
