GREAT PERFORMANCES: Vienna Philharmonic

<i>SUMMER NIGHT CONCERT 2010</i> The Vienna Philharmonic returns to the gardens of Austria’s Imperial Schönbrunn Palace for the annual summertime celebration. Wednesday, August 25 at 8 p.m. on PBS-HD.

The renowned Vienna Philharmonic continues its summertime tradition with another open-air concert held in the magnificent gardens of Austria’s Imperial Schönbrunn Palace. Guest conductor Franz Welser-Möst (currently music director of the Cleveland Orchestra) will lead the Vienna Philharmonic in an atmospheric selection of audience favorites.

The musical highlights of Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert 2010 underscore the Palace’s majestic surroundings and explore the theme of “Moon, Planets and Stars,” with selections from silver screen composer John Williams’ theme from “Star Wars,” Johann Strauss’ “Viennese Spirit Waltz,” Josef Strauss’ “Off on Holiday! Quick Polka” and Gustav Holst’s “The Planets.” The evening’s program also includes a performance of Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 by Yefim Bronfman.
