MASTERPIECE: Wallander

THE FIFTH WOMAN Two seemingly unconnected cases leads Wallander to believe he is on the trail of a serial killer bent on revenge. Sunday at 8 p.m. on PBS-HD. by Colleen Greer

When Wallander (Kenneth Branagh) investigates the disappearance of an elderly bird-watcher, he discovers a gruesome and meticulously planned murder: a body impaled in a trap of sharpened bamboo poles. When another man is reported missing, once again Wallander's life is on hold as he works tirelessly to find a link between the series of vicious murders.

Gradually, he comes to realize that he is on the trail of a serial killer bent on revenge. It is one of Wallander's most personal and harrowing cases — one that will even bring him into an unexpected kinship with a killer.
