California Sues to Stop Border Wall Build

The lawsuit claims the Trump administration is in noncompliance with environmental laws.

The state of California has filed a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration from building a wall along the state’s border with Mexico.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced the lawsuit Wednesday. He accused the Trump administration of not complying with federal environmental laws when it waived restrictions in order to build new border fences along two sections of San Diego’s border with Mexico.

In part, the attorney general’s office argues that the Trump administration is attempting to build border barriers at a time when they’re not needed because illegal immigration has dropped. He also argued that California’s own environment around the border region and the state’s tourism will be impacted by new border barriers.
