Episode 342: What to Expect as 2018 Elections Near

Also, the potential political fallout over allegations of sexual harassment against Arizona Rep. Don Shooter.

On Arizona Week, the 2018 election cycle is heating up. We take a look at the domino effect created by Jeff Flake’s open U.S. Senate seat.

We paint a comprehensive picture of Arizona's political landscape from political strategists Drew Sexton, of High Ground Public Affairs, Jason Barraza, senior associate director with Veridus, Hershel Fink, executive director of the Arizona Democratic Party, and Torunn Sinclair, communications director for the Arizona Republican Party.

The outlook for Arizona’s 2018 election season promises to be unique. Republican Kelli Ward and Democrat Kyrsten Sinema have both declared candidacy for U.S. Senate following the surprise announcement that Jeff Flake will not seek re-election. Martha McSally has reportedly informed her colleagues she’ll be running as well, though she has not officially thrown in.

We also explore a national issue that is hitting close to home. An Arizona lawmaker was suspended from his leadership position following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.

Don Shooter, a Republican who served in the Arizona Senate before being elected to the state House, has been suspended from his position as chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

Luige Del Puerto, editor and publisher of the Arizona Capitol Times, explores the possible political fallout from the allegations.
