Forum to Explore Challenges, Misconceptions in Refugee Resettlement

Program looks at concerns and issues for newcomers in Pima County.

Tucsonans can learn more about the needs and concerns of new refugees in the community at a public forum Tuesday.

The International Rescue Committee in Tucson is presenting the program, which is hosted by the Pima County Library. The speakers will focus on how to help refugees navigate the public health care system when they resettle in the Tucson community. Library community relations manager Holly Schaffer says it's also a chance for experts to dispel misconceptions about refugees moving into the area.

"And the information they are providing is sound and comprehensive and will give people a launching point to do further exploration," she said.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Pima County is home to nearly 130,000 people born outside of the United States. Tuesday's event will be held at the Murphy-Wilmot library branch starting at 5:30 p.m.
