Bush, Clinton to Chair New National Institute for Civil Discourse

The University of Arizona today announced the launch of the new National Institute for Civil Discourse to be chaired by former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (retired) and former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle will be the institute’s honorary co-chairs.

Institute director Brint Milward and co-director Sally Rider join the Arizona Illustrated studio to talk about the idea behind the institute--first proposed by Arizona Board of Regents vice chair Fred DuVal, and inspired by the discussion that followed the Jan. 8 shooting--and its mission to connect people with diverse viewpoints and offer a venue for rigorous debate.
