Lea Marquez Peterson, president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, discusses the Major League Soccer Desert Cup.

The Tucson soccer community and the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce kick off the first ever Major League Soccer competition in Tucson on March 4th and 5th at High Corbettt field.

The event will feature FC Tucson and the Arizona Sahuaros as the local teams, and the New York Red Bulls and Sporting Kansas City as the Major League Soccer teams. Team play will include the likes of striker Thierry Henry, who has starred for the French national team in the World Cup and for Arsenal in the English Premier League, and defender Rafa Marquez, who was captain for Mexico during the 2010 World Cup and scored the team’s first goal against host South Africa.

Lea Marquez Peterson, president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, joins the Arizona Illustrated studio to discuss why the organization chose to support the event and the benefits expected for the community.
