A member of the Tohono O’odham Nation and author of three books of poetry, “Ocean Power: Poems from the Desert”, “Jewed I’hoi/Earth Movements” and "Where Clouds Are Formed", Zepeda has been named Tucson’s Poet Laureate. She was one of the participants in the original Poetics and Politics series in 1992. In addition to being a renowned poet, Zepeda is also a University of Arizona Regents’ Professor. Her coursework, like her writing, is often bilingual. Her English/Tohono O’odham poetry is inscribed on large boulders near the UA Campus, on North Mountain Avenue. Zepeda has also earned the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship.
