Broadcasts from the Houston Grand Opera on KUAT-FM conclude at noon this Saturday, November 26, with a performance of Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. The performance will run approximately three hours.
Renowned soprano Patricia Racette makes her role debut as the passionate Floria Tosca in Puccini’s timeless drama. Tenor Alexey Dolgov is the painter Mario Cavaradossi, whom Tosca adores and Raymond Aceto sings the menacing Baron Scarpia, who will stop at nothing to destroy the object of Tosca’s affections.
Although not apparent to the radio audience, this new production was created especially for Houston Grand Opera by John Caird and features classic sets and costumes designed by Bunny Christie in the style of nineteenth-century Rome. Houston Grand Opera Music Director Patrick Summers conducts.
