Broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at 9:00 a.m. this Saturday, April 21st, with a performance of Siegfried by Richard Wagner, based on Norse mythology as told in the Volsunga Saga and the Poetic Edda. Siegfried is the third of the four works that comprise the composer's opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen. The performance will be sung in German and will run approximately six hours.

The third Ring opera is, at heart, a coming-of-age story in which a fearless young hero discovers his destiny. Wotan's hope for recovery of the ring now rests with his grandson Siegfried, who must reject his adoptive father, forge a magical sword and slay a fearsome dragon to prove himself worthy of its mighty power—and the extraordinary woman who awaits him.
