Many people assume that Tombstone is more of a theme park than a real city.

But the Tombstone Rose Festival Friday through Sunday shows the town's softer side, and its realities besides having been home to one of the 19th century's most celebrated Western shoot-em-ups.

"Tombstone is a real town. We get calls everyday asking when Tombstone opens, that's like asking when does Tucson open," says, Kenn Barrett, of the Tombstone Chamber of Commerce.

Tombstone hosts many events daily, including gun shows, horse rides and shows at the OK Corral, but if a more relaxing, nonviolent event is to your taste, try this weekend's festival.

The event will kick off on Friday at 6 p.m. with the crowning of the rose queen and her court under the Rose Tree.
