World War II Vet Frank McCloud (Bogart) makes a trip to Key Largo, Florida to visit the family of a soldier who was killed while fighting under his command in Italy. He finds the soldier’s wheelchair bound father and widow managing the rundown Hotel Largo. The family asks him to stay with them, and he soon finds the other guests include gangster Johnny Rocco. Rocco has illegally entered the Florida Keys through Cuba. Frank and the family are virtual prisoners in the hotel as the gangsters wait out the storm. Rocco’s ruthless intimidation eventually forces Frank, disillusioned by the violence of war, to take action.
