Pima County will continue to provide legal aid to tenants facing eviction through next year. The program began in July as a reaction to instability brought on by the pandemic.
Andy Flagg runs the county’s Office of Emergency Eviction Legal Services, and he said the new plan is designed to handle cases more efficiently and accommodate for the fact that most hearings are still remote.
"From the tenants perspective, they receive the same services," Flagg said.
The county said it expects the plan to refer 1,500 tenants to lawyers at four contracted law firms next year.
The county has worked with the city and a non-profit to handle over 7,500 cases since March, and about 5,000 cases are in line for aid.
