Thousands of children in Pima County will receive a free breakfast and a free lunch this summer even if they’re not enrolled in their neighborhood schools through the Summer Food Service Program.

Flowing Wells, Tucson Unified, Amphitheater, Marana and Sunnyside school districts are among many school districts offering free meals to all children under 18 years of age.

“You don’t have to be a student of the district just be under 18 and you can come to any of our open sites and receive breakfast or lunch,” said John Oakley, the food and service director for Sunnyside School District.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture funds the program nationwide and states administer the funds. In Arizona, the state’s Department of Education runs the program in partnership with school districts.
