The City of Tucson announced a plan to put $34 million in federal relief funds towards affordable housing, workforce development and other projects over the next four years. The mayor and city council are now inviting non-profits and businesses to apply for the aid.
The funds come from the American Rescue Plan Act, which President Joe Biden signed in March. The city budgeted about a third of the money for this first year.
The mayor and council said that in terms of affordable housing projects, they’re looking to create housing trust funds and small scale housing for seniors and youth. They are also interested in projects that will provide immediate support for people in need of affordable housing, and rehabilitate manufactured housing.
And they are inviting non-profits and businesses with programs that provide financial support for energy retrofits and parks, arts and culture projects to apply.
The grant applications are open and the first round of review will begin on January 19th. The city will conduct virtual workshops to aid people with the application process December 16th and 21st.
