The cost of harvesting rainwater this summer is getting cheaper for some people. Tucson Water is offering rebates for capturing and storing rainwater for irrigation and other uses.

“It’s for residential customers,” says Fernando Molina, a spokesman for the utility. “People can qualify for up to $2,000 in rebates for installation of rainwater harvesting systems.”

“To qualify for the rebate program, people do have to attend one of our rainwater harvesting workshops or a workshop sponsored by another organization that we feel meets our requirements,” Molina says.

The workshops will help participants develop project plans and learn about different water saving techniques, he says.

A list of sites and other qualifying information is on the Tucson Water website.
