Gov. Jan Brewer has appointed James Erik Marner as a judge in Pima County Superior Court.
Marner will replace Judge John Leonardo, who retired earlier this year and then was nominated to be the next U.S. attorney for Arizona.
President Obama nominated Leonardo because Dennis Burke resigned from the position amid the Fast and Furious gun-running scandal.
Marner is a Tucson native who has been practicing law in Arizona since 1997, according to a news release from Brewer's office.
He also worked in Washington state and has experience arguing civil and criminal cases, the release says.
