A young thief, known as Lightfoot (Bridges), steals a car. At the same time a minister is being shot at while delivering a sermon. The preacher escapes on foot, and is being chased by the shooter, when Lightfoot accidentally runs over the gunman, saving the preacher’s life.

As they drive away, Lightfoot discovers that the minister is really “The Thunderbolt” (Eastwood), a bank robber known for his use of a 20 millimeter cannon to break open a safe. Thunderbolt has been posing as a preacher since he and his accomplices robbed a Montana bank years before. He is the only one who knows where the loot from the robbery is stashed. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot decide to drive to Warsaw, Montana to get the money, only to discover a new school is now standing where the loot was hidden.

Lightfoot comes up with the idea to rob the same company they did years before, using a new variation of the original plan. They devise a complicated plan that will take time and patience to pull off. A small snafu during the heist thwarts an easy escape, and chaos erupts.

Hollywood at Home: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Saturday at 9 p.m. on PBS 6.
