The field of candidates in Arizona's 1st Congressional District race narrowed Monday.

Doug Wade announced he is withdrawing because of a lack of funding. He asked voters in a message on his website to instead support fellow Republican Gaither Martin.

The secretary of state's office says Wade has not officially withdrawn. If he does, any votes cast for him in the Aug. 28 primary won't be counted.

Jonathan Paton and Patrick Gatti also are seeking the GOP nomination. Wenona Baldenegro and former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick are candidates on the Democratic side.

Libertarian Anthony Prowell says he was removed from the race in June because of a challenge to his petition signatures.

There's no incumbent in the race. First-term Rep. Paul Gosar is seeking office in another congressional district.
