The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded $7.2 million to Arizona firefighting agencies to help them boost staffing levels.

Most of the money distributed so far this year in Arizona went to the Phoenix Fire Department, which received $4.4 million.

The rest of the Arizona grants went to smaller fire departments in the communities of Peoria, Heber, Casa Grande and the southern Arizona community of Hellsgate.

The grants are intended to increase the number of trained "front line" firefighters in those agencies.

No departments in Pima County have received funding from this grant so far this summer.
