House Bill (HB) 2347 changes a number of parts of the statutes with regards to carrying a concealed weapon. The bill eliminates as an offense the carrying of a concealed weapon without a permit, unless the person is under 21 years old. If the person is under 21, carrying a weapon without a permit would be considered a petty felony. Additionally, there are exceptions, such as being a member of the Sheriff’s Posse, when a person under 21 can carry a concealed weapon without a permit. HB 2347 also spells out the requirements for obtaining a concealed weapons permit including authorized training classes. The proposal is sponsored by Pima County Rep. Frank Antenori (R).
HB 2347 was heard by the House Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee on February 3, 2010. It was approved by 5-2 vote. No local lawmakers are members of the committee.
