Senate Bill 1083 makes changes to the retirement benefits for state, county, and municipal employees. The proposal changes the way monthly average compensation is calculated for employees hired after July 11, 2011. Currently, compensation is calculated based on the average of the highest 36 months out of the last 120 months. Under the change, compensation would be based on the average of the highest 60 months out of the last 120. SB 1083 also changes the retirement date calculation for people hired after July 11, 2011.
The full Senate voted on SB 1083 on February 22, 2010. It passed on a 29-1 vote.
