Hollywood at Home: Splendor in the Grass

Playwright William Inge won an Oscar for this tale of young love and parental misunderstanding set in Kansas during the Twenties. Saturday at 9 p.m. on PBS 6.

Wilma Dean Loomis (Natalie wood) and Bud Stamper (Warren Beatty), a pair of idealistic young lovers in a small Kansas town in the mid-twenties, face the painful choice of containing their passion or sacrificing the illusion of purity within their consciences. Their internal conflicts thwart their hopes for happiness in this heart-wrenching romantic drama.
