Matinee broadcasts from The Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, December 20, with a performance of The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The score is set to an Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte, which was based on the a stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, La folle journée, ou le Mariage de Figaro, of 1784. The performance will be sung in Italian and will run approximately three hours and forty minutes.

A carnally minded count, his neglected wife, their wily servants and a young page who falls in love with every woman he sees: Mozart’s greatest comedy contains a cornucopia of wonderfully flawed and human characters who will amuse and delight you. Music Director James Levine conducts Sir Richard Eyre's new production.
