Matinee broadcasts from The Metropolitan Opera continue on Classical 90.5 at 11:00 a.m. this Saturday, February 21, with a performance of Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart set to an Italian libretto by by Lorenzo Da Ponte. The performance will be sung in Italian and will run approximately three hours and thirty-five minutes. Alan Gilbert conducts.
In any country and in any language, Don Giovanni means seduction. Rich, powerful, and handsome, Giovanni charms and abandons women at will until arrogance kindles the fires of his own demise. Mozart's music, alternately playful and powerful, illustrates this timeless story perfectly, with charm, wit, and the gravity of impending doom.
