AZ WEEK: Legislators Aim to Adjourn in Two Weeks

Lawmakers hope to wind down session in record time; $9.1B budget still stirring controversy.

Arizona Week's Friday episode explores the waning days of the state legislative session, including the ongoing arguments over the $9.1 billion state budget that Republicans pushed through two weeks ago.

Interviews for the program are with:

  • Senate President Andy Biggs, who says the state budget isn't controversial. "I think it's been misinterpreted by some, mischaracterized by others. But I think we have a budget that I believe is structurally sound, structurally balanced."

  • Senate Minority Leader Katie Hobbs and House Minority Leader Eric Meyer. Hobbs: "It's a bad budget. It takes Arizona in the wrong direction." Meyer: "We passed the budget in the dead of night that, actually, none of us had seen."

  • Legislative reporters Mary Jo Pitzl of the Arizona Republic and Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services offer analysis of the budget and the legislative session so far.
