Broadcasts from the Lyric Opera of Chicago continue on Classical 90.5 at noon this Saturday, May 30, with a performance of Il Trovatore by Giuseppe Verdi, set to a libretto written primarily by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the play El trovador (1836) by Antonio García Gutiérrez. The performance will be sung in Italian and will run approximately three hours. Asher Fisch conducts.
Verdi's epic drama Il Trovatore has everything you could possibly ask for in an opera: a larger-than-life story and blockbuster music to match. Follow along closely, however, because the structure of Il Trovatore intertwines three different plot lines that run concurrently and involve many of the same characters. Don't worry, you'll be singing along to "The Anvil Chorus" in no time.
