Broadcasts from the Lyric Opera of Chicago continue on Classical 90.5 at noon this Saturday, June 6, with a performance of Anna Bolena by Gaetano Donizetti. Felice Romani wrote the Italian libretto after Ippolito Pindemonte's Enrico VIII ossia Anna Bolena and Alessandro Pepoli's Anna Bolena, both telling of the life of Anne Boleyn. The performance will be sung in Italian and will run approximately three hours and thirty minutes. Patrick Summers conducts.
Sondra Radvanovsky portrays the ill-fated queen driven insane by her unfaithful king, who demands a son as his heir, and sings one of opera's greatest mad scenes in the bargain.
