Marchello has been a member of the U of A’s Animal Sciences faculty since 1965. He faces ten felony charges for allegedly misappropriating money from a student-run meat store, which he oversaw.

The charges include one count of theft of property for services over $25,000, one count of fraudulent schemes, seven counts of forgery and one count of computer tampering.

U of A spokesman Chris Sigurdson told Arizona Public Media that Marchello is on administrative leave with pay. Beyond that, in line with university policy, he could not comment on personnel issues.

Campus police searched Marchello’s offices in November and Sigurdson said the university has been actively cooperating with the investigation.
