It’s abundant, nutritious and free and more people are incorporating it into their diets. Prickly pears are native to the deserts of the American continents and were already being used by their indigenous residents when Europeans arrived. Since then, the plants have been propagated in other parts of the world and are experiencing a local resurgence as more people look for native, locally-produced food to consume.
