METRO WEEK: Civil Discourse Programs Get Out Young Vote

Tucson-based national institute says its efforts are making measurable difference

This week Metro Week checks in on the progress of the Institute for Civil Discourse with its Executive Director Carolyn J. Lukensmeyer.

Among the topics:

  • An update on the institute's Text Talk Vote program that successfully encouraged some young adults to vote even though they weren't planning to before they participated.

Listen to an update on the program:

  • How the institute knows a program to help state lawmakers become more collaborative with members of the other political party is working.

  • Why discourse in local elections tends to be more civil than federal elections such as for Congressional seats.

Plus, our journalists roundtable with AZPM's Fernanda Echavarri, the Arizona Daily Star's Patrick McNamara and the Associated Press's Astrid Galván analyzes the week's news.
