Tucson’s world-renowned gem and mineral shows are months away, but avid jewel hunters have an early chance to snag some treasures this weekend.

Yelena Masenko, director of the JOGs Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, said the fall show is smaller than its winter sibling, but the deals and selection are just as good.

"The main companies that exhibit at our winter show - a lot of manufacturers, direct dealers, some designers - they all come," she said.

Unlike the better-known winter show, the expo this weekend is open to the public.

Last year more than 8,000 buyers attended the show to visit with more than 100 vendors from all across the U.S. and around the world.

The show will be Thursday through Sunday at the Tucson Expo Center on East Irvington Road. Admission is $10. Masenko said discounted tickets are available on Groupon.
