The two sides in the labor dispute between Sun Tran and its unionized bus drivers and mechanics are meeting today.
In response to Wednesday's city council meeting, Sun Tran halted the hire of new temporary replacement workers. Company spokeswoman Kandi Young said the management group that runs Sun Tran will make a stronger effort to end the 36 day-old strike.
“Their hiring of temporary additional replacement workers is not occurring at this time per request from that meeting," Young said. "TransDev scheduled to meet with Teamsters 104 today and they will continue to work toward a resolution of the work stoppage.”
City council members told the Sun Tran management company, Professional Transit Management, that hiring temporary workers demonstrated it did not negotiate in good faith.
