Listen:
The Arizona Board of Regents will vote Friday on pay raises and performance bonuses for the presidents of the state’s three public universities.
University of Arizona President Ann Weaver Hart is recommended to receive a $25,000 pay raise this year. If the regents give their OK, that would bring her annual base pay to $500,000.
The regents will also decide on performance bonuses for the three presidents, and Hart is in line to get a $115,000 payout on top of her base pay.
That is based on the university reaching several benchmarks in the past year, including boosting freshman retention and issuing a multi-year plan for the College of Medicine.
The pay raise comes at a time when the university is making layoffs and cutting costs to make up for losing $28.4 million in state funding this academic year.
The regents also will consider raises and bonuses for Arizona State University's Michael Crow and Northern Arizona University's Rita Cheng.
The recommendation for Crow is for a $30,000 base salary increase, to $600,000, and a bonus of up to $160,000. Cheng is recommended for a raise to $390,000 and a bonus of up to $40,000.
