The Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta will take place October 1-4, and feature teams from Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, the top professional league in Mexico.
For the first time in its five years, games will take place at Hi Corbett Field, not Kino Sports Complex.
“I was the GM of the Tucson Toros from ‘89-’97 at Hi Corbett, and I love the location," said Mike Feder, president of the Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta. "And we think it will be attractive to a lot of people. It’s a little tighter, but we think that will make it more fun, so the fans will feel like they’re on top of the action.”
Teams from Hermosillo, Mexicali, Obregon and Los Mochis will take part in the games this year, which act as preseason tune-up games for the players.
Also included in the games are teams with prospects from Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Feder said the event works to bring the tradition of Liga Mexicana de Beisbol to Tucson, including the music, entertainment and food common to Mexican league games.
Each night will feature two games, and a concert showcasing bands from Mexico will take place after the second game.
A complete schedule of games and concerts can be found at the event's website.
