We've all had those moments where it seems a medical professional is speaking a different language. It can be frustrating, confusing and even frightening.

Help may be on the way in the form of a new project at the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management. There, researchers will seek to translate medical terminology and help doctors better communicate with patients via an Internet-enabled computer program.

The project, in UA's Management Information Systems department, received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop the program over the next four years.

It will be a collaboration among 12 colleges, universities and health organizations.

The collaborators said they hope to have a fully functional version of the program up and running by 2019, though partial versions of the program may be available before that.
