The city of Tucson is expanding efforts to get more Tucsonans to own homes.
Help for Homebuyers is an initiative from Mayor Jonathan Rothschild's office that merges a variety of nonprofit and governmental organizations that offer help to those interested in buying houses in Tucson.
The programs offer help through down payment assistance, mortgage reductions programs, credit score improvement and tax credits.
“When you own your home, you’ve invested in it, you take pride in it, you take care of it," Rothschild said. "When you own your home, you care about your neighbor, you meet your neighbors, you create that neighborhood feel.”
The initiative coincides with the latest program offered to Tucsonans. The Arizona Department of Housing's Pathway to Purchase offers down payment assistance of 10 percent of purchase price up to $20,000. The program is offered to borrowers earning less than $92,984 a year who are buying a house that will be a primary residence.
