The state governmental budget finished the 2015-16 fiscal year with a $222 million surplus, preliminary numbers from the Joint Legislative Budget Committee showed Wednesday.
The report for June, last month in the fiscal year, showed revenues coming in $25 million ahead of the budget and spending $28 million ahead of budget for the month.
The final figures won't be available for several months. The preliminary result supported the Legislature's decision to increase spending in the current fiscal year by about 5 percent.
It's the third straight year of multi-million dollar state surpluses.
