NATURE Voyage of the Lonely Turtle

Driven by instinct, a female loggerhead turtle undertakes an odyssey to return to her birthplace to lay her eggs. Thursday, June 3 at 8 p.m. on PBS-HD.

Departing from the coast of Mexico, a female loggerhead swims for six months before resting in the Hawaiian Islands, then continues toward the shores of Japan. All the while, she is driven by the instinctual memory of the place where she was born 30 years before.

It is one of the longest journeys undertaken by any animal on land or sea, and she will make it all alone - facing typhoons and sharks, whales and squids, and passing through several exotic kingdoms of the sea.
