As Arizona and the nation enter the general campaign season, the two major party presidential candidates have turned Arizona into a battleground state.
Dependably Republican in recent years, pollsters say Arizona could be more “purple” in terms of presidential candidates.
Scott Seth, director of Hillary Clinton’s Arizona campaign, says his team is working hard to put Clinton on top in the state.
“We have an incredible operation across the state of Arizona - 24 offices. Almost 200 staff through our coordinated campaign are talking to voters,” he said.
Republican Donald Trump has made five stops in the state, including one last week in which he spoke about his immigration platform.
Brian Seitchik, Arizona supervisor for Trump’s campaign, says they’re happy the Democrats are working hard in Arizona.
“Any dollars they spend here, they can’t spend in true battleground states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida.”
Bill Clinton was the last Democratic candidate to win Arizona, in 1996.
