A Southern Arizona lawmaker wants the city of Tucson to be punished if it is not following the law on what it does with guns it seizes.
Oro Valley Republican Rep. Mark Finchem wants the attorney general’s office to investigate whether the city of Tucson is destroying seized guns. A law passed earlier this year allows the state to withhold funds from a city that does not follow the law.
Tucson drew the ire of legislators when it began buying guns from the public and destroying them. In 2013, then-Gov. Jan Brewer signed a law barring cities from the practice.
The attorney general’s office has not decided if it will investigate.
