Listen:
Sunday is expected to be the busiest day of the year at Tucson International Airport, and airlines have added flights to the entire week to meet the demand.
The airport has 130 flights scheduled Sunday, a 25 percent increase from the average day in November, said Jessie Butler, spokeswoman for Tucson International.
Thanksgiving is the busiest airport travel time of year, because most people try to fly in the days just before and after the holiday. This year people seem to be stretching out their travel plans, Butler said.
“What makes it different from last year is that crush was that Tuesday and Wednesday before the holiday, this year’s flights have been busy since last Friday and will probably be busy extending into Tuesday of next week," she said.
On the roads, there will also be crowds. AAA Arizona projects more people will take Thanksgiving road trips this year because gasoline prices have been steady lately.
