Southern Arizona is a hotbed for astronomy which is good for the economy, for education, and for scientists, among others. We have some of the best-known photographers in this field, and part of the reason is the local effort to keep skies darker than many other metropolitan areas.
Mike Weasner is the chair of the Oracle Dark Skies Committee and is a retired astrophysicist. He is also involved in educational programs and is an active member of the astronomy community.
