The people behind the grassroots effort putting the state educators walkout in motion Thursday are expecting charter school teachers to join in.
Charlene Mendoza is a member of the Arizona Charter Leaders Advisory Council. She says charter school teachers have not responded as quickly to the call for action, but a lot of participation is expected.
"You know, here in Southern Arizona, I did informally poll our area charter schools, and the great majority of them are participating somehow," she said.
Mendoza said collaboration between teachers, lawmakers and business leaders will help the walkout get its message across.
"I think we are seeing legislators who are participating in that process, and trying to come up with some solutions as well," said Mendoza. "We certainly have galvanized the public and the business community, so I think it's worth it right now."
